5 INTERIOR DESIGN CONCEPTS TO CONSIDER FOR THE BLANK WALLS OF YOUR GREATER VANCOUVER BC HOME

Mirrors, Mirrors, on the Wall

You know that installing a large mirror to cover the entirety of a wall solves the “blank" problem, while also creating the perception of more space. However, it feels like an uninspiring solution. Instead, combine a geometric patchwork of mirrors to cover your entire wall space. It adds a creative and artistic element, while still fabricating a perception that there is more space in a room or hallway than there actually is.

Shelve It!

Shelve your wall design ambitions - literally! Doing so provides a solution to an empty wall while creating more usable space. It’s the perfect marriage between aesthetic and function, when done under the guidance of an interior designer.

Dramatic Finishing

Refinish blank white walls with wood panels, concrete, or any other type of finishing that suits your style and preferences. In the image above (left side) you can see how we had superimposed some of the homeowner’s favorite things.

Wine it Up!

A National Association of Home Builders survey recently found that among new-home buyers with an annual household income of $150,000 or more, 31% listed a wine cellar/room as their most desired amenity. While not everyone has the square footage for a dedicated room, tall empty wall space can accommodate a standing wine rack. This concept works in the dining room, living room, basement, and even the bedroom should you desire (we don’t judge).

All Encompassing Mural

Cover the entirety of your wall (including corners, nooks, and crannies) with a mural. The mural may convey something that your passionate about. For instance, globe-trotters could consider an expansive world map, or outdoor enthusiasts may have one of their favorite forest or beach images super-imposed onto premium wallpaper to create an outdoor escape in a given room interior such as an office space.

The above concepts offer a great place to start with respect to wall design ideas. For a truly customized solution, you will want to consult with an interior design firm near you.
